Chuck grew up in the small west Tennessee town of Friendship, where he knew and was known by everyone within a radius of five miles. He became a Christian at the age of nine years old. His parents were Christians and his father served as an elder at the Friendship Church of Christ.
He graduated from the University of Tennessee Junior College which is now known as the University of Tennessee at Martin with an Associates Degree in Medical Science (Pre-Med). He spent the next 22 years as a Naval Pilot, serving 2 years in Vietnam as a combat reconnaissance pilot. While in the Navy, he earned a BA degree in Political Science and International Relations at Naval Bestgraduate School, Monterey, California, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Rollins College.
While in the Navy, he had many opportunities to serve God at state-side and foreign locations in Italy, Africa and Thailand . He has baptized converts in places like bathtubs and the Indian Ocean off the coast of Vietnam . He had frequent visits to Thailand and worked with missionaries there for two years while station on the Island of Guam and in Vietnam.
After retiring from the Navy, Chuck taught at the Christian Home and Bible School in Mt. Dora for one year. He has been a realtor and property appraiser for over 27 years. Chuck is currently the owner of Realty II Services, a residential sales and management company.
Chuck has been married to Bonnie Fetner for 50 years. They have three girls, Lisa, Lauren and Jayne, a son Paul, and five grandchildren. Chuck and Bonnie have been at Concord Street since moving to Altamonte Springs from Guam in 1970. They have served as Shepherd and Sheperd's wife since 1976, with great joy and with wisdom and dedication to be true servants of the flock. Chuck is well known for his diligence in visiting the sick in the hospital.
Chuck and Bonnie are missionary minded. This outreach attitude is also reflected in their family. Lisa (daughter) and her family spent years in Ukpom, Nigeria. Daughter Jayne spent a summer in Nigeria as well. Chuck and Bonnie both spent over a month in Nigeria since being at Concord Street. Chuck said, “My greatest joy is being involved in the teaching and conversion of one who was lost, and to be available to assist members who need a friend.
