Reports of last Wednesday night's Summer Series were encouraging from the remarks that I read about it from our members on FaceBook. I'm thankful for Bro. McFarland for coming to exhort the family of God that meets on Concord Street. Meanwhile I had an enjoyable time with the good brethren at the Sanford Church of Christ while presenting "How to Break from the Mold of Technology."

Many of you are traveling for the Independence Day holiday weekend. I hope that you'll be safe in your travels, and be sure to worship with the saints while away on the Lord's Day. Don't forget the Maingate congregation that meets in the Days Hotel only one mile away from Disney. Worship starts at 9am and it is followed by Bible class at 10am. We are thankful for our guest speakers who preach the Word for us.

Were you Ready for the Transition?

Years ago, television snow and white noise was a nightly but temporary condition when television stations ended their broadcast day, usually shortly after midnight. As of today, the white noise and TV snow has become a permanent condition for the old television sets using antennae. Although we were warned about this transition for the last five years (almost daily for the last two years), it was still a rather poignant moment to witness the last moment of analog broadcast on the local station, which gave some final words about a fifty year broadcast history and then slowly, respectfully, faded to black. The future is now.

You don't have to wonder how many people will be ready for the most important transition, the Day of the Lord. We've been warned for thousands of years but not told when it would happen. We are acting like the neighbors of Noah, who ignored his preaching until the rains came and it was too late for them. The Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night! It will then be too late for those who are unprepared.

The wise one will determine today to be ready. Heed the warning and the transition will be smooth--and the best is yet to be.

Thank you for your Requested In-Depth Bible Study (R.I.B.S.) questions for the evening sermons. Please keep them coming. Occasionally, we'll receive a question that has already been answered in the evening sermons but it is good to know what's on your mind.

We are looking for opportunities to teach in the community, both "publicly and house to house" (Acts 20:20). If you know of a group that would like to have a Bible study class (e.g., retirement center, clubhouse, club, etc.,) or if you have friends or relatives that would be interested in a personal Bible study to help them discover God's will for their lives, please pass the word on to us.

What We Believe... PDF Print E-mail

We accept that the Bible is inspired by God and is profitable for doctrine, correction, reproof, and instruction in righteousness, that the Christian may be completely equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  The Bible tells us that the church is the body of Christ (Ephesians 1:22-23) not a country club or a front for a political agenda.

Our Lord Jesus commissioned the Apostles to go into all the world and preach the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20), making disciples of Him and teaching these disciples to be faithful to Christ's commandments. This is a continuing commission, and therefore spreading the good news of Christ is the central task of the church today.

reader1s.jpgOur Objective is to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) so that as the body of Christ, we all work together in love to please the Head.

Our Vision is for every creature under Heaven to know the hope in Christ through the gospel (Colossians 1:23), to be rescued from darkness and brought to the Kingdom (Col. 1:13) and therefore to know the forgiveness of sins through the blood of Christ (Colossians 1:14) .

Our Mission is to teach publicly and from house to house (Acts  20:20). We do this in our worship service, in Bible classes and in personal in-home Bible studies. Call us to schedule your own personal Bible study as we search the word of God together (Acts 17:11).

concord1.jpg"There's no place like Concord Street!" We hear this time after time as our members visit other congregations and compare the experience with their lives as members here. The warmth and friendliness is second to none.

Nine years ago my family and I first worshipped with Concord Street. Few people really knew us, but soon after entering the building we were warmly welcomed by all. The Christians were genuinely interested in us (we were visiting, not interviewing) and we found the worship service to be scriptural and the members enthusiastic. The singing was heartfelt and the audience was responsive to the prayers and the reading and preaching of God's word. The congregation worshipped together! These descriptions coincide with Paul's admonition to "speak the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15).

"Truth" and "love" reflect the balance that the church is to have in its work. First there is a concern for God's truth. Second, there must be a love for souls. This is the plan for God's church as it is busy teaching the gospel and maintaining a love for truth.

When you come to visit us, you will find a warm, diverse congregation that expects book, chapter and verse preaching. Here, the truth is spoken in love. That's why I am confident in our slogan, "Where your heart has a home."

Come and see for yourself.      -D. W.
